We are a full-service animal hospital providing comprehensive pet healthcare services in Castle Rock, CO. Our state-of-the-art facility offers ultrasound, digital x-rays, digital dental x-rays, a full surgical suite, and an in-house laboratory. We are committed to providing quality care at every stage of your pet's life. From routine preventive care to early detection and treatment of a wide range of conditions and diseases, we have the expertise to provide the highest standard of care for your pet. We also serve Castle Pines, Larkspur, Franktown, The Pinery, and Parker.

  • Dr. Albert Chai

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Albert Chai, along with Dr. Jasmine Tom, are the founding veterinarians of Blue Spruce Animal Clinic. Both doctors graduated from the prestigious veterinary medicine program at Colorado State University.

    Dr. Chai is a native of Austin, Texas and grew up with a passion for all animals. At a young age, he knew he wanted to help animals as a veterinarian. Before opening Blue Spruce Animal Clinic, he had the unique opportunity to intern with zoo and exotic animal veterinarians in Tucson, AZ.

    When not in the clinic, Dr. Chai and Dr. Tom, along with their dog, Tucker, can be found hiking Colorado’s mountain peaks and alpine lakes in the summer, and skiing fresh powder or snowshoeing the backcountry in the winter.

  • Dr. Jasmine Tom

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Jasmine Tom, along with Dr. Albert Chai, are the founding veterinarians of Blue Spruce Animal Clinic. Both doctors graduated from the prestigious veterinary medicine program at Colorado State University.

    Dr. Tom is a native of Honolulu, HI and spent large parts of her youth volunteering at animal shelters and clinics. In addition to general practice, Dr. Tom discovered a passion for emergency medicine years ago as an intern at Animal Hospital Specialty Center in Highlands Ranch.

    She met Dr. Chai during their freshman year of college and found somebody who shared her passion for animals. They both remain ever grateful to Colorado State University and the great state of Colorado for bringing them together.

    When not in the clinic, Dr. Tom and Dr. Chai, along with their dog, Tucker, can be found hiking Colorado’s mountain peaks and alpine lakes in the summer, and skiing fresh powder or snowshoeing the backcountry in the winter.

  • Dr. Serene Onuma

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Onuma earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Colorado State University after receiving a Master’s degree in Neuroanatomy. She earlier earned a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Onuma’s veterinary interests range from surgery and internal medicine to dentistry and geriatric care. Her love for animals started at a young age when her father would bring home stray cats, dogs, and even rabbits from work. She found that animals gave unconditional love and were a support system. This fueled a passion for animals that drives her to this day. A Hawaii native, Dr. Onuma shares her home with a shepherd cross named Juno.

     

     
     

  • Dr. Sarah Leyman

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Leyman grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio before receiving her undergraduate degree in biology from Amherst College in Massachusetts. She then attended veterinary school at The Ohio State University. After graduating, she completed a rotating small animal specialty internship at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. She practiced for an additional year in New Jersey before she and her husband moved to Colorado. They have three cats- PBJ, Sookie and Flea, a beagle mix named Moose, and 11 chickens. In their free time, she and her husband love to travel, tend to their vegetable garden, and spend time outside hiking, biking, camping and skiing. Her professional interests include preventive care, surgery, ophthalmology and exotic pet medicine.

  • Dr. Alexander Toetz

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Alex Toetz received his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery degree from the University of Glasgow after doing his undergraduate studies at Purdue University.

    Dr. Toetz grew up in a small town in Indiana. His family always had dogs and cats, which helped foster his love for animals. This love for animals, along with a passion for science, led him down a path to veterinary medicine.

    In his free time, he enjoys hiking, swimming, running and exploring Colorado.

  • Dr. Jeremiah D. Moorer, DVM, Diplomate ACVS

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Jeremiah Moorer grew up in South Georgia and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 2008. He completed a 1 year rotating internship at Texas A&M University after graduation. He then spent 1 year at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center as a surgical intern before obtaining a residency in small animal surgery at Oklahoma State University. He completed the 3 year residency at Oklahoma State University in 2013 and then stayed on as faculty for the following year. During that time he also passed the ACVS certification examination in 2014 to become board-certified in small animal surgery. After leaving OSU, Dr. Moorer spent 3 years in San Antonio in a multi-specialty hospital performing soft tissue, orthopedic, and neurologic surgeries. Dr. Moorer has been in Colorado since 2017 and started Trek Veterinary Surgery in 2019. In his spare time Dr. Moorer enjoys spending time with his wife and son, hiking, camping, hunting, and training for triathlons.

  • Dr. Stacy Winkelman, DVM, MS, DACVR

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Stacy Winkelman is a Colorado native, but grew up in Northern Virginia outside of Washington, DC. She received a BA in Biology and Psychology from the University of Virginia in 2001 and obtained her DVM degree in 2005 from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Winkelman completed a one-year rotating small animal internship in medicine, surgery, and emergency at a large private practice in Charlotte, NC. She then worked as a small animal private practitioner for four years before deciding to specialize in diagnostic imaging. Dr. Winkelman received a MS in Biomedical Sciences and completed her diagnostic imaging residency in 2013 from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to starting her own veterinary imaging company, Vista Veterinary Imaging, she served as an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University and worked for a private veterinary imaging group in Colorado. Dr. Winkelman is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology. While she enjoys all aspects of veterinary imaging, her passion is ultrasonography. Dr. Winkelman also works for several large veterinary teleradiology companies, has authored scientific articles, and presented diagnostic lectures for continuing education.

    In her spare time, Dr. Winkelman can be found skiing, hiking, or traveling. More than anything, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially her husband, twin daughters, cat, and dog.

  • Dr. Carrie Ginieczki

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Carrie Ginieczki received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University. She then pursued a rotating small animal internship at Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Following her internship, Carrie completed a combined cardiology residency and Masters program at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. Immediately following her residency, she achieved board certification in the discipline of veterinary cardiology through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

    During her time at Purdue, Dr. Ginieczki was thoroughly trained in echocardiography, the clinical discipline of veterinary cardiology and catheter-based techniques that offer minimally invasive options at correcting congenital heart disease. She also performed research and published articles related to many aspects of veterinary cardiology. Topics she has covered include therapy for Atrial Fibrillation, anticoagulant therapy and pacemaker patients.

    Dr. Ginieczki is the founder and sole owner of Colorado Veterinary Cardiology. She has a passion for assisting clients and their family veterinarians in diagnosing and treating dogs and cats with heart disease. She has a particular interest in treating subclinical heart disease (heart disease in patients without clinical signs), congestive heart failure and feline heart disease. Dr. Ginieczki lives in Evergreen, Colorado with her husband, son, cat and the many wild animals that visit their home daily. She is an active mountain biker, rock climber, cross-country skier and yogi.
